Wander around

NYC makes me wander around aimlessly. At least I've been catching 333pm pretty regularly.

First day back in Brooklyn, getting the moo special from Mikes, and walking around with a sick Boostier, makes it nice to be home.

I finally fulfilled my craving for cheesecake! This was so much better than these weird "cheesecake balls" I had in LA. They totally lied about what they were. As far as I could tell they were sponge balls soaked in sugar sauce. Really really weird. Nothing compares to a good graham cracker bottom.

Circus? in the Union Square? on a truck?

LA

So after 11 years of managing to stay away from LA I finally took the step, spent the 50 bucks, and flew down there from SF. I guess I didn't go all the way cause I didn't rent a car, god forbid I ever have to drive... I begged for rides and bussed around during the day. Really, it's not so bad. The busses actually come.

So Tuesday I went for a hike at Runyon Canyon Park. It was a really nice, clear day out so the views were great. The hike was short but pretty. At the top we could see acros the way to a guy standing on the ridge in the distance.

Later on in the day I made my way to LACMA. It was a bit of a dissappointment as they were showing the Richard Sera exhibition that was at the MOMA two years ago...the one show that I had happened to see 5 times. I have to say it was much cooler outside in the garden at MOMA.

There was, however, a wooden vag with a window and a door on either end. very odd.

I failed and got dinner with a bunch of friends but ofcourse didn't take any pictures. It's funny cause I came home and saw a picture on my dresser of the girl I went to dinner with and it's so old yet we look basically the same. Should've taken a new one to put next to it. O well, maybe next time.

Friday I went to the MOCA but ofcourse I neglected to check their exhibition, walked there, and realized it was closed til November 15th. Instead, I bought a drink and spent an hour in their gift shop and wandered aimlessly about. Other than Gehry's monstrosity there was little to see.

Saturday Olivia and I decided to take an Art Deco walking tour of LA. The tours are done through the LA conservancy and last a couple hours. It was pretty interesting and I honestly should've taken some photos but was too distracted by my stupid brain that I forgot.

However, later on at the Getty (really pretty) I did manage to get a couple photos in. The sunset from up there was gorgeous.

Meet SNUGGLES!!!

All and all I liked LA. I would've chosen a different experience in some cases but my aversion to it is not as strong as before. Probably would've been more enjoyable had I not gotten sick...along with everyone else in the world this week.

Well, I'm back to rainy NYC.

Treasure island

So we actually managed to fly out for the weekend and get our asses to Treasure Island Music Festival. There was a slight mishap with my giant luggage filled with dirty laundry. JFK might be the meanest airport ever. I almost pulled the same thing on the way to LA though and luckily they let me on the flight.

Good ol' sunny California.

No, I did not ride the ferris wheel. They freak me out and plus the line was way too long.

This was taken at the Dan Deacon after hours concert at the Mezzanine. It was fucking awesome. I got this shot from above cause non of us had slept in so long that we were barely awake.

FUnemployment

After 2 long years at GW I got the boot last Friday. I suppose it is all for the best. Since then, I've tried to get my apartment situation straightened out, worked on a nyu thesis, and a music video. Since it's been basically a week since I've not had a "real" job I'm still enjoying it. I assume that panic and depression will ensue the moment I am lounging on a couch with no one calling me to work for free or at all.

The NYU thesis:

These pics above are from the first days shoot up in Yonkers. I worked on this for a few days when I had time and met some pretty great people. Hopefully, will turn out well. I suppose all shoots are bit tense and bit of a mess.

This film basically had no art department or production designer...The producer and director managed the props and my "art PA" skills were only used for balancing that there clock above the door.

....and then there was the second job:

The music video:

The theme is a doctor suessy idea for desks. This is what we call a desk dressed in foam core. Does it look wonky enough for you guys?

The dancers...hopefully they won't die on the desks.

Animal Safety

courtesy of Read Blankenship

This is by far the most amazing thing someone has seen. Though I did not get to see this with my own two eyes it made my day. The dog has goggles on and the man has velcro shoes. It's like the 80s or something. Anyway, I hope the dog is okay and didn't fly off the bike. Poor guy doesn't even look strapped down.

Weekends

I realized what people do on the weekends. They spend money. I managed to go to brunch both Saturday and Sunday. Working is definitely a better bet. We met up at and went to Cafe Moutarde around 1:30pm, lamented over our celery-less Bloody Marys, and sat around eating until 430pm when they closed to set up for dinner. In the mean time we moved to yet another fooding location and hung out there until after dinner. Photos above are us just vegetating and roaming about Park Slope.

Sunday I wandered from Union square, to west village, to meat packing, back to Union square, and then all the way down to soho. At one point I stopped to have brunch with my Blondie at Standard Grill: steak and eggs and topped it off with cheesecake. So good. Laura and I ended up hanging out in the city for what felt like hours but was only like 30 min.

and life goes on

The real problem with working in film is loss. The art department and PAs on this last shoot were so amazing that I've taken a hard hit now that it is over. After 2 weeks of getting to know people and seeing them, enjoying their company, I have to start all over again. Well, at least this weekend we have restoration of the apartment to continue on so a few of us will be there and ... drumroll please... I got another job with Danielle for a music video. So, I guess it's not a complete start over. I'm very excited. I had applied to a couple jobs a week ago but never heard a response and thought maybe I should take a break while my apt is getting put together, but I can't turn down an offer. I don't know how people do it though; working a month here, a couple weeks and not knowing for sure when their next paycheck is coming in.

I have something to look foward to though. I am going home mid October, right around the time I'm supposed to move, to see the most amazing lineup ever. It is beyond awesome and I'm super stoked. I convinced Button to go with me (was not hard) and hopefully Nappy, Blythe, and Mike will come too. We will ROCK OUT.
