I started the day yesterday with FOOD and ended it with BEER.
Everyone is running late in NY. It doesn't matter how early you are, your'e still running late and always running down the stairs to catch the train. This blurrr swooshes by and if it's coming in it's "O YAY! I might make it on time!" The latter is far more depressing and a feeling of.. "ugg my day is already starting off bad."
Yesterday, I just didn't care. I was running late, as usual. Instead of being all panicked, running to the subway, praying the Q train was gonna come instead of the B, just to save 5 min and 1 flight of stairs, I decided to get breakfast. Stoped by the local yuppie bakery and got myself a ham and cheese croissant and some blood-orange, hibiscus, lemonade, iced tea. I have no idea what kind of tea it was. I leave my drink choices up to the professionals. I say "iced tea", they offer me 3 kinds with variations for each. My line that used to be reserved for fancy bars like Angel's Share, has now extended to quaint cafes and coffee shops. "Make something for me." Yesterday I got my bright red tea. Today I got a green tea lemonade. It's the boredom that I think drives the "you decide" mentality. If I were to decide, I'd get the same thing everytime. This way I have some variety, some surprise, a little pizazz in my routine life. All that.... in a drink. Who knew?
My desk at work was dubbed by a few, a "mini kitchen." Apparently, it's the curse of the person that sits here. The woman before me also kept lots of food around too. My supply however is dwindling. The fancy pear and fennel seed jam has now turned into a jar for mcdonalds ketchup packets, my cereal supply has been whiddled down to one box, and my loaf of bread is stale, and my wholefoods cookie supply has been devoured. It's because I've decided that with my boredom, I can't have food just lying around, waiting to be eaten. I must bring food in, eat it, and be done.
That poop like mini brownie soufle was my dessert for my breakfast croissant. How decadant, right? Ducan Hines, the master baker. Not really 'healthy' but what can one do. I shared! How about that?
For dinner I had a sandwich from this cute cambodian, fusiony, sandwich place, Num Prang. I would've taken a photo of the five spice, glazed, pork belly, rhubarb sandwich I ate last night or the Coconut Tiger Shrimp sandwich I had Saturday, if I hadn't devoured them at rapid speeds and remembered only after there were some crumbs left on the plate. Above is a view of outside the shop. I know, a tease...
And... drumroll please....
The beer I promised! Look at that. There's this awesome bar/restaraunt, Lillies, on 17th that serves TONS of great beers in the bottle and on tap. The most amazing thing is that they actually serve the beer with the beer cup it's supposed to be served in. The awesome Irish bartender, Roland, told me that he saw me eyeing the glass and had his watchful eye on me cause they started off with 28 of these kiuchi brewery cups, but now, only have 2 left because people keep stealing them. Can you blame them though? The perfect pour, into the cutest little stout glass.
great read! keep 'em coming!
